Our Story

The Ethique Foundation is nine years in the making. When Brianne West founded the company in 2012, the idea was to create plastic-free, sustainable alternatives and show the beauty industry what better business looked like. Charitable donations and investment in regenerative initiatives was always a part of the company DNA from day one and Ethique supported non-profit organisations protecting animal welfare, biodiversity, promoting conservation and human rights and much more based both in Aotearoa and around the world. As the company grew, so too did the contributions, which have always been at least 2% of sales. In the nine years prior to the Ethique Foundation’s creation, Ethique had donated over two million dollars to organisations globally.

In the next four years to 2025, Ethique aims to give away ten million, to be handled by the Ethique Foundation.
Rather than passively give money to organisations now however, we are going to use our business expertise, external advisors, networks and passion for regenerative business practices to help those with outstanding, scalable ideas create the change we need. Our champion project is the Ethique Fellowship. We will support conservation and rewilding efforts, work with organisations to support biodiversity and walk alongside and champion those defending indigenous peoples rights.

Mastak Pal Kaur

Advisor

Mastak is Programme Director at Becht Family Charitable Trust (BFCT)where she is responsible for strategy and development of the grants portfolioto protect and restore our planet’s marine biodiversity. Alongside her role atBFCT, she is also ESG Director at Bansk Group (a consumer goods focused PrivateEquity fund), where she leads the identification and maximization of key ESGopportunities that are material to the consumer goods space and the Banskportfolio. Prior to joining BFCT and Bansk, she held end-to-end brandmanagement and category development roles at L’Oreal in the mass marketsegment. Mastak received a Bachelor degree in Commerce from Delhi University,India. She did her M.Sc. in Marketing from Manchester Business School, UK andher M.B.A. from INSEAD, France & Singapore.

Joaquin Figaredo

Joaquinis Director of Corporate Philanthropy at Impatience Earth where he has helpedmobilise $100M of new funding to fighting climate change and restore naturalhabitats. Joaquin is advisor to several for and non-for-profit organisations,and he is former Managing Director of Be the Earth Foundation and a seniorconsultant from BCG. Joaquin received his MBA at London Business School.
